Athenian Silver Drachm
The mid-denomination owl — more affordable than the tetradrachm, equally iconic
Unique piece
The Athenian Drachm
The silver drachm (worth six obols or one-quarter of a tetradrachm) was a significant denomination in its own right — roughly a skilled worker's daily wage. While the tetradrachm was the coin of foreign trade and large transactions, the drachm served domestic commerce.
This Coin
This drachm features the classic Athenian owl design in miniature. At approximately 15mm, it offers the full Athena/owl imagery on a more intimate scale. The dies were individually carved, so each example has subtle differences — the tilt of Athena's helmet, the curve of the owl's brow — making every coin unique.
